The Saint Michael’s College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams combined to win 27 events while defeating Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday. The men, who are now 1-1, notched a 138-31 triumph, while the women, also 1-1, claimed a 188-66 win.
On the men’s side, junior Connor Hopkins (Windham, N.H./Windham) collected four wins, topping the 50- (22.17) and 100-yard (50.72) freestyle and the 100-yard individual medley (58.35), while joining senior Jacob Sutton (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro), and sophomores Dan Fortier (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) and Payton Stewart (Keene, N.H./Keene) in the 200 free relay (1:38.83) victory. Stewart finished second in the 100 free while also finishing second in the 1,000 free to first-year Sean McGurn (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) (10:51.91). First-year Nate Imbergamo (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) also corralled four wins while staying undefeated in eight races on the season, taking wins in the 50-yard backstroke (27.96), 200 free (1:54.90) and 500 free (5:23.09). He combining with McGurn and first-years Myron Prograis (Etters, Pa./Cedar Cliff), and William Sullivan (Arlington, Va./Bishop O’Connell) for a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:44.18). McGurn claimed the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.35) for his third victory of the meet, while senior Seamus Butler (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) finished second and edged out McGurn for second in the 50 breast by 0.06 seconds. Sullivan finished second in the 200 free as well as second in the 50-yard butterfly to Prograis (25.81), who claimed his first career individual win. Fortier finished in third, right behind the pair in the 50 fly, while finishing second to junior Aidan Mulderrig (Rockville Center, N.Y./South Side) in the 200 fly (2:10.76). Mulderrig also grabbed second-place finishes in the 100 IM and 200 back, trailing only senior Pat Thornton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) during the 200 back (2:10.69). Thornton finished second in the 50 back, only 0.23 seconds behind Imbergamo. The team of Butler, Fortier, Mulderrig, and Stewart combined to take second in the 200 medley relay. Senior Tim Kinville (Colchester, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) won both one-meter diving competitions, with 104.60 points in one and 153.35 in the other.
On the women’s side, senior Patty Kohn (Weston, Conn./Greenwich) tallied four wins, claiming the 200 back (2:14.99) and 1,000 free (11:11.98), while pairing with senior Meg Flanagan (Middletown, R.I./The Prout School/Boston College) and juniors Lauren Giampietro (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) and Sarah White (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet Regional) for a win in the 200 medley relay (2:00.87). Kohn also added a win along with Flanagan and fellow seniors Elizabeth Doherty (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) and Tess Grimaldi (Higganum, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) in the 200 free relay (1:49.32). White also recorded four wins, emerging victorius in the 200 free (2:07.20), the 50 fly (28.53), and 200 fly (2:23.30) to go along with the 200 medley win. Giampietro posted individual victories in the 50 breast (33.44) and 100 IM (1:06.21) while finishing second in the 200 breast. Grimaldi notched a win in the 50 free (26.85) and grabbed second in the 100 free, while junior Reiley Adelson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) claimed victory in the 500 free (5:52.10). First-year Maggie King (Clinton, Conn./Mercy) rounded out the victories for the Purple Knight women by topping the lone one-meter diving (78.55) competition in her collegiate debut. Doherty and Flanagan each registered second-place finishes, with Doherty’s coming in the 200 free and Flanagan’s coming in the 50 and 200 back races. Junior Megan Reid (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) claimed second in the 500 free, while sophomores Leah Benoit (Franklin, Mass./Franklin), Kristin Burlew (Springfield, Vt./Hartford), and Megan Geschwind (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) finished second in the 50 free, 50 breast, and 200 fly, respectively.
